When you’re dealing with industrial grids in North America or Europe—where 480V or 575V is the norm—those off-the-shelf lamps just don’t cut it. Usually, people solve this by slapping in bulky step-down transformers. They’re huge, they eat up precious floor space, and they waste a ton of energy. We think there’s a better way. The Nitty-Gritty of High Voltage
It’s not as simple as slapping a different sticker on the box. When you jump to 480V or 575V, the physics change. The resistance and the current draw shift. If you just plug a standard lamp into a high-voltage line, it’ll pop the second you flip the switch. To stop that from happening, we tweak the length and diameter of the tungsten filament. We make sure it hits the exact wattage you need without burning out. Plus, there’s a hidden perk. High-voltage setups let you put more lamps on a single circuit. That means you can use thinner wiring across your annealing lehr, which saves you a decent chunk of money on installation.
Heat, Quartz, and a Word of Warning
We use high-purity quartz for the tubes because the heat density is intense. These are designed for short-wave IR, which is great because it sinks into the glass much faster than long-wave heat. You hit your annealing temperature way quicker. But look, there’s a catch. High-wattage, high-voltage tubes put out a massive amount of heat. If your housing isn’t vented properly, you’re going to cook your wiring and kill your lamps early. Just double-check that your cooling fans can actually handle the thermal load. It’ll save you a massive headache later.
