
Dealing with the Glare in Bathroom Heaters
Ever turned on a bathroom heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? Most of these infrared lamps use short-wave radiation to get you warm fast. It works, but that blinding glare is a real pain. It’s especially tough on kids or babies whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the quartz heating element actually puts out light. Taming the light We didn’t just turn the brightness down—that would kill the heat. Instead, we used special coatings and filtered quartz glass to shift the spectrum. Basically, we block out the harsh visible light and keep the energy focused on the heat. You still get that cozy, dense warmth, but without the “blinding” effect. It’s just heat, no headache. Keeping it safe These lamps pack a lot of power into a tiny space. To make sure that heat actually gets to you (and doesn’t just melt the fixture), we use high-purity quartz tubes. The housing has to be tough enough to handle the “heat soak,” too. If the reflector isn’t angled just right, you end up with hot spots that can actually burn your skin. We make sure the beam points straight down. It keeps the heat on you and off your ceiling. A few tips on installation You can’t just shove these into any old hole in the ceiling. The gap between the lamp and the ceiling is a big deal. If you mount it too tight, heat gets trapped up there. That’s a recipe for fried wiring or a burnt-out lamp. Give the fixture some room to breathe. And if your ceiling is made of something that melts easily, definitely add a thermal barrier or move the unit further away. A little airflow goes a long way in making sure your electronics don’t go up in smoke.
